NZ government ending logging
===== A message from the 'landwatch' discussion list =====
FYI
Helen Clark's innovative and very popular New Zealand Labour government was the subject of a lead Guardiak Weekly editorial. (Kiwis keep to the left May 11 but the Guardian website is abysmal and I couldn't find it to paste on). As well as
ending logging in old growth Ms. Clark's government has:
raised taxes on rich
stopped privatization in its tracks boosted spending in schools and hospitals abolished all honours with titles
strong non-nuclear defense policy and cancelled an order for 28 fighter planes moving to decrimminalize cannabis
freedom of information regime "so liberal that cabinet papers are available to anybody who wants them within three months"
The main message of the editorial was that right leaning Labour governments could learn a thing or two about governing from Clark's NZ Labour.
