===== A message from the 'landwatch' discussion list =====
Hello again,
I have just realized that I did not send some key bits of information to you all with this appeal. Please excuse the additional email in already crowded boxes.
Background
CESTA stands for the Salvadoran Centre for Appropriate Technology and the Sierra Club of BC has had a partnership with this organization through the GAIA Project for over eight years.
CESTA’s mandate is to create a sustainable society in a country that has suffered heavy environmental and social degradation. The have been working with communities to develop and introduce appropriate technology throughout El Salvador since 1978. Since then they have become the leading voice for environmental sustainability in the region, employing over sixty people in programs that range from reforestation, permaculture, solar cookers, pedal powered technology, potable water systems and composting latrines to campaigns on the protection and planting of forests, community economic development, legal issues and even the protection of endangered species such as the sea turtle.
The GAIA Project is a partnership between the Sierra Club of BC and CESTA that promotes locally appropriate solutions to global issues through partnerships and education, and fosters and models sustainable initiatives.
The Sierra Club of BC has been working with CESTA for eight years. We support CESTA’s activities through technical expertise, fundraising, awareness-raising, information exchange, and a youth internship program.
