URGENT- Deadline June 20, 1999
FILE YOUR OBJECTION TO DAVID ANDERSON'S EXPROPRIATION OF NANOOSE BAY
Ottawa's "Notice of Intention to Expropriate", Nanoose Bay has
now been published, and we have until June 20 to register objections. Liberal Minister
David Anderson is taking this unprecedented action because the US Navy, which uses the
Nanoose test range 80 % of the time, wants to be able to bring nuclear warheads and
nuclear powered attack submarines into the waters of Georgia Strait.
Numbers count. Although only a single 'objection' to the expropriation is requred to
trigger hearings under the federal act, Ottawa and Anderson are sensitive on this issue.
They need to be innundated with objections. And send a copy of your letter to your local
MP, MLA and media!!
We don't know exactly when or where the expropriation hearings will be held, or whether
Ottawa will pay expenses for those people who have to travel to attend hearings which may
be held only in Nanaimo or Ottawa. We can be certain, however, that the hearings will be
called soon, as the Feds are fast tracking the expropriation to meet their Sept. 04
deadline to ink a deal with the US to let the US Navy bring nukes into BC waters.
The MAIN thing is TO GET YOUR OBJECTION IN THE MAIL BEFORE JUNE 20: or you won't be
allowed to participate.
HERE's HOW:Here are the address(es) to mail your objection to. (by 'registered mail').
Please also PUBLISH AND FAX this as widely as possible.
