Subject: Int'l POPs Elimination Network
Thank you for your organization's endorsement of the International POPs Elimination
Network (IPEN) platform statement. IPEN is a network of environmental and public health
organizations committed to achieving the elimination of persistent organic pollutants
through a global agreement which more than 100 governments began negotiating last month in
Montreal, Canada. A number of North American organizations -- including Physicians for
Social Responsibility, Greenpeace, Commonweal, World Wildlife Fund, Pesticide Action
Network, and the Women's Environment & Development Organization -- have spearheaded
the formation of this network, which is now seeking the participation of additional
organizations from around the world. IPEN was officially launched in Montreal on the eve
of the first government meetings there. More information about IPEN, including a draft
mission statement and the minutes from our meeting in Montreal, is available at <http://www.psr.org/IPEN_Homepage.htm>.
IPEN has established an email listserve for sharing news and information about POPs and
the POPs treaty process. If you'd like to subscribe, send a message to <majordomo@igc.org> with the following in the text:
subscribe pops-network <your email address>
It would also be helpful if you would fill out and return the brief questionnaire that
follows. This will help us keep track of the groups that have endorsed the platform and
are involved in IPEN and their specific interests, as well as provide a mailing list for
new documents and other information.
Please don't hesitate to contact me for more information about IPEN and what we're doing.
Thanks again for you interest, and I look forward to working with you!
--Karen Perry, IPEN Coordinator
P.S. If you would like more background information about POPs and the POPs treaty, you may
