Alberni Valley Community Forest Update
Please note our name change from “Port Alberni Community Forest” to “Alberni
Valley Community Forest” in order to be more inclusive of the diverse group of
stakeholders who will benefit from the use of the land base and the anticipated
community projects that will be financed by AVCF Corporation profits.
After years of planning, a DRAFT of the AVCF Probationary Community Forest
Agreement (PCFA) Application, and the associated forest and non-forest inventory
maps, is available for review.
The Forest Management page of the AVCF web site (www.communityforest.ca)
has been updated with links to the application document and maps. The document
contains a summary of public consultation activities; community forest visions,
goals, and guiding principles; a management plan which outlines strategies to
manage timber and non-timber forest values; and a business plan. This
application has recently been endorsed by Port Alberni City Council, and will be
reviewed and eventually approved by the Ministry of Forests and Range prior to
issuing a five-year probationary licence. Note that because of the large size of
the application document it will take a long time to open (if you have a
high-speed link it should open by the time you count down backwards slowly from
50).
The Advisory Committee worked hard to incorporate your priorities and objectives
for the activities you value on the AVCF land base into the plan using input you
gave by email, at the fall fair, at open houses, and during personal
conversations. The Community Forest Advisory Committee would like to hear
feedback from you regarding the draft plan. Please email comments, questions,
and concerns to
communityforest@drhconsulting.ca.
You have received this email because you have expressed interest in the Alberni
Valley Community Forest. Please let me know if you no longer wish to be on this
distribution list.
