The Business Examiner (business newspaper on Vancouver Island) August 2001 has the following article: KTD of Spokane, Washington, has completed their pre-feasibility study to build a $1.5 billion aluminium smelter in the Alberni Valley, and its findings are favourable. The study concludes the area is a desirable location for a smelter,which could employ 2,000 construction workers during a three-year period, and as many as 650 employees when it is up and running. The smelter could produce 360,000 tonnes of aluminium a year. David Krakoff, a KTD principal, says it's now a question of finding investors for the project. .............
