Port Alberni Hog Fuel (Leachate Pool)

(Ditch dug to allow drainage to harbor last December 1997 and filled in after complaint May 1998.  South end of Pile.  Notice the Leachate still in drainage ditch leading to the Port Alberni Harbor)

(Leachate pools on east side of Hog Fuel Pile.  The pools continue beneath the steam pipe for the length of the Pile.  Leachate enters the creek at the north end of the Pile.)

Reported to Ministry of Environment June 1998 - Testing to be done.  The source is as yet unknown.  It could be related to the west side of the old chip pile bed.

Aquatic plants do not appear to do very well in this area. The direct affect on fish is not known to us.
