Michael Steves of Sunbird Disposal &
Recycling is excited about his company's plans for expansion of recycling
in Port Alberni in the very near future.
Pacifica
Papers is operating a paper recycling program through Sunbird. Here
we see roll ends from the mill being dropped off at Sunbird's site at the
landfill. The roll ends go to International Paper Products in
Nanaimo where they are recycled.
Sunbird's operations are soon to expand from
this small building to a much larger in-house operation where more goods
will be stored and kept dry until markets are right for selling goods.
A light day's load of recyclables collected
from Sunbird's clientele is dropped off for sorting.
Stored milk jugs at Sunbird's landfill site. When
Sunbird goes in-house, they will have a lot more room to diversify and
organize. It takes 9,920 milk jugs to make one industrial bale for
sale; Sunbird is looking forward to getting much needed space to
streamline their operation.
