PRESS RELEASE
NATO 50TH ANNIVERSARY WEB SITE TO FEATURE LIVE VIDEO STREAMING
The official U.S. web site for NATO's 50th Anniversary Summit will
feature live video streaming of the ceremonies, key addresses, press
conferences and other events taking place in Washington, D.C., from April
22 to April 25, 1999.
The Internet address for the U.S. government's NATO summit site, designed
and managed by the U.S. Information Agency, is: "http://nato50.gov".
The webcast will take place in cooperation with NATO-TV, which is
providing extensive coverage of the summit. NATO-TV's television feed is
available free of charge to accredited media organizations. Many of the
events broadcast live over the Internet during the NATO summit will also
be recorded as digital files, which can be clicked on and viewed at a
later time. (To view these files, users will need RealPlayer software,
version 5.0 or higher. )
In addition to video streaming, the NATO 50th web site carries extensive
information about the summit, including schedules, agenda schedules,
major texts and statements, media accreditation, tourist information, a
photo gallery, and an extensive set of links to other NATO sites on the
Internet. A prominently displayed "window" links directly to NATO's own
50th anniversary web site
("http://www.nato.int/welcome/logo50/nato50.htm").
Other links provide
the latest official NATO statements and information on the crisis in
Kosovo.
The 50th Anniversary Summit will commemorate NATO's extraordinary success
in safeguarding the freedom of its members for a half century, and will
chart the way for a larger, more flexible Atlantic Alliance in the 21st
century. Bringing together Heads of State and Government and Foreign and
Defense Ministers of 44 countries from across Europe and North America,
it will be the largest gathering of world leaders ever hosted in
Washington.
